Little Brown Bat
A Little Brown Bat chasing an Atala Butterfly. A tale of two endangered creatures!
The little brown bat is facing a severe population decline due to a fungal disease exacerbated by cross-contamination (humans carrying it from one cave to another, and bats from an infected area moving places).
And the atala butterfly, once thought nearly extinct due to the harvesting of their host plant, has made an incredible comeback in recent years! I travelled to Lake Wales this spring and got to see a massive emergence of the species. It's something I'll remember forever. There were so many around the base of the plants after they had served their purpose of continuing the life cycle.
Both species preserved in art.
Measures 11 x 8.5 inches and includes a chain to hang from.
